Welcome to my blog! But who am I, and what is this blog about?
I am a commercial/technology PSL at a large commercial law firm in the UK. This blog is about the things that interest me in this capacity, but as a committed geek, that doesn’t just mean they interest me at work…
I specialise in all things contractual, but I’m particularly interested in the way the law applies to the Internet and IT. I’m also a self-confessed “information law” geek. So I write primarily about technology, e-commerce and data protection, with a bit of freedom of information thrown in for good measure.
But what is a PSL I hear you ask? Good question, and one which I might expand upon in some of my postings.
PSL stands for Professional Support Lawyer. A rare breed, we don’t have a standard job description, and we are more readily described by what we don’t do - as a general rule (often broken), I don’t directly carry out legal work for external clients.
Instead, I provide training, know-how, support and experience to the lawyers in my team, who deal with a full range of commercial contracts including outsourcing and IT/e-commerce. I was first intrigued by blogging because of its usefulness for sharing knowledge in my team, but the more I learnt about it, the more interested I became in the community aspect of the “blawg” community1.
My employers know that I blog, but this blog is not a reflection of their opinions, simply my own.
Finally, as a lawyer, I feel compelled to ask you to read my disclaimer, which basically confirms that what you find here is general information based on English Law, which I try to ensure is correct, but can’t guarantee. What it isn’t is legal advice. Don’t rely on it - check it - consult a lawyer!
(It’s also free, so please bear in mind I don’t accept any liability in connection with your use of it.)
- whilst I can appreciate the usefulness of this term, I just can’t quite bring myself to use it… [back]
